Our Lady of Prompt Succor at 32615 Bowie St. PO Box 249., White Castle, LA 70788-0249 US - The Cluster Parishes

The Cluster Parishes

Built in 1896, Our Lady of Prompt Succor was the first church dedicated to Our Lady of Prompt Succor, the patroness of Louisiana. The present day church modified Romanesque in style, was built in 1954 after fire destroyed the first building. Our family faith community worships in the beautiful environment of marble altars and hand-carved statues.

Bayou Pigeon residents originally worshipped on a chapel boat, Our Lady Star of the Sea, which visited the area monthly beginning in the Spring of 1936.  In 1951, a chapel was built in Bayou Pigeon near what is commonly referred to as "the end of the world".   The St. Joan of Arc Church Parish was founded in 1965 followed two years later by the construction of the mission chapel, St. Catherine Laboure in Bayou Sorrel.  Our Lady Queen of Peace Shrine was built in 1990 behind St. Joan of Arc Church facing the fairgrounds.  Those with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother have visited here many times.  Fresh roses were found daily at the foot of her statue.  The current St. Joan of Arc Church was dedicated on June 1, 2003.
